New Scentsy Bar & Brick Packaging Coming Soon

Scentsy wax products will have a brand new look beginning in March 2010! To differentiate ourselves in the market and protect the authenticity of Scentsy products, Scentsy Bars and Scentsy Bricks will now be packaged in clamshells
shaped like our Classic Warmers.

In addition to differentiating us from any competitors in the market, the Scentsy Bar will now weigh .8 ounces (23g) more than current bars: 3.2 ounces (90g) vs. 2.4 ounces (68g). That’s 33% more in each bar for the same $5 price ($6 CAN), in a beautiful and distinct design. The weight of Scentsy Bricks will remain at 16 ounces (45g). The new bricks will be packaged without the cardboard sleeve. Yay for going green!

This change will take affect during the launch of the Spring / Summer 2010 product line on March 1, 2010.

A Scentsy Metaphor in Dark Times

“I spent a good deal of time looking for where some money is. I have tons of different accounts that keep things too complicated. I seem to have 100 things to do at all times and the list never gets smaller…I have struggled for years with too much debt and overhead…Every day, I question how long until the game is up and I run out of time.”

Scentsy is, in a way, a great metaphor. Scentsy warmers are safe lights in a dark room, and Scentsy – in all that it has become in the hearts and minds of all who claim a piece of it – is a bright light in a dark world. The darker the room, the brighter the light; or, in other words, what Scentsy represents – family, opportunity, safety, simplicity, value, authenticity – becomes more pronounced, more special, as the world becomes more fragmented, contracted, uncertain, complicated, and selfish.

While Scentsy can never replace the sacredness of faith and religion or the specialness of family, it can serve as a safety net and warm blanket. Sleepless nights of opportunity are refreshing compared to sleepless nights of worry. We all worry; peace comes when opportunity outshines worry. As my journal entry of four years ago illustrates, I have had dark times of worry. But opportunity has shined more brightly, and what was once a worry has now turned out to be a grand journey. That same journey and perspective are available to each of you as Scentsy continues to outshine our dark economic times.

Best,
Orville Thompson

The Science of Smell

We often take it for granted, but our sense of smell is helping us live our lives every day. Smell can alert us, entice us, even relax us. Researcher Dr. Alan Hirsch says even “concentrations so weak they are below the threshold of consciousness, still affect peoples’ moods subconsciously.”

Second only to vision in strength, the sense of smell proves to have easy and immediate access to our memories and hence emotions. “Seventy-five percent of the emotions we generate on a daily basis are affected by smell,” says one expert. “Next to sight, it’s the most important sense we have.”
Endless amounts of research continue to prove this relationship between the sense of smell and our ability to retrieve memories and evoke emotions.

Here are some fun facts about the sense of smell:
  • The sense of smell is directly linked to the center for memory and emotion in the brain through the olfactory system;
  • Over 70% of our emotions are based on things we smell;
  • Smells can be recalled with great accuracy after long periods of time –
  • Remember the smell of fresh bread as you walk past the bakery?;
  • The sense of smell can be used to influence mood or concentration;
  • Increase alertness or reduce anxiety, relieve stress and enhance the quality of life.
  • Pleasant fragrances have been proven to elevate mood and reduce depression;
  • Aromas can be used to increase staff productivity;
  • Our sense of smell is responsible for 80% of what we taste;
  • Everyone has their own unique odor identity or smell “fingerprint;”
  • A woman’s sense of smell is keener than a man’s;
  • Our sense of smell is at work even when we are sleeping;
  • Odor can trigger or retrieve a memory instantly;
  • We can not turn off our sense of smell.
